Kris was able to (finally) get a Saturday off of work so we could head up to Boise and visit some of my Mom's family. They were unable to come to our wedding because the weather was so bad; it was a complete white out. So, this was the first chance Kris had to meet them. We had a fantastic time. (Maybe I can post some pictures that my aunt Carma took if she'll send them to me, but for now I'll just describe what we did)
We left on Friday as soon as Kris got off work (he had worked 5-11 that morning). The drive, which is just under 6 hours, seemed to fly by. We read The Hunger Games, which you should definitely read if you haven't. It was pretty fun, plus we had a good stock of munchies, too. We made it to my grandparents in time to see three of my cousins who they watch after school. I remember when these guys were born and now they are 10 and 11-- crazy!!
After dropping off our stuff, we headed over to the elementary school that my mom went to as a kid, were Carma and Greg's two boys, Nick and Nate, go to school. They were having a fundraiser game-night type thing. It was so fun to watch the boys as they ran to the different events, hula hoops was definitely my favorite but the sack race was fun too. We made it back to my grandparents just in time to have a wonderful meatloaf dinner that my grandma prepared. We had a great time just visiting with them the whole night, hearing stories about my young cousins, about when my grandpa was in the air force, and stories from when my mom was a kid.
Saturday morning we got to go to Nick and Nate's soccer game. They are both on the same team and did awesome! It was so fun to watch the kids play. Carma and I got to chat, too. After the game, we were able to see the "smurf turf" at Boise State and then go to a little candy shop called Powell's. It was awesome. They had delicious gelato that was the closest I have ever found to the gelato from Italy. We also got some other fun old-school treats and are still working our way through our loot. We finished off with a fantastic taco bar for dinner. (Kris was thrilled about the nacho cheese, haha).
Either later that night, or on Sunday morning before we left, my grandpa showed us on old photo album. It was SO fun to see pictures of him from when he was our age. He was a mechanic in the air force in the 50s and could take apart planes and stuff-- how cool is that?
Kris and I were so grateful that we were able to take a weekend to visit before we will be moving to Indiana. Everyone showed us great hospitality and we had a wonderful time!
