Kris and I took a mini-vacation to Indiana last week. It was the only time until I graduate that we had enough time that it would be worth the cost of plane tickets. It was both productive and entertaining. We left on Wednesday, March 9, which coincidentally, is Melissa's birthday. She turned 17. Here is a picture of the two of us from New Year's Eve 2009.
It was fun to see her on her birthday. Since it is Anderson family tradition, we stopped at Steak 'n Shake after my family picked up Kris and me from the airport. It was delicious. They have the most wonderful shakes.
During the rest of the trip, we had a lot of fun. In no particular order, here's a list of some of the things we did with my family.
- Played Apples to Apples with the expansion pack that Kris got for Christmas from Jeff and Lori (so none of us had seen any of the cards before). It was really fun. Especially because I won. My victory was a combination of my great sense of humor as well as my manipulation skills.
- Went to the movies to see The Adjustment Bureau on Saturday. It was a pretty good movie. It was also fun to go to the movies. Kris and I don't do that too often so it was a nice treat.
- Watch BYU defeat New Mexico. By we, I mean Kris, my dad, and me. Melissa did watch Jimmer, though. My mom went to go work on something else. It was a very exciting game.
- Watch SDSU beat BYU. This was not as fun.
- Had birthday cheesecake and had Melissa open a couple more presents
In addition to the entertaining side of the trip, Kris and I were very busy as well. We were looking at apartments. We have been thinking for a while about moving back to Indiana after I graduate for several reasons. It was a surprise to both of us since neither of us ever wanted to live there. All growing up, I always told my parents that I would never live there. Kris never wanted to go back after his mission, either. But, it felt right to both of us, so we pursued it further. We looked at several apartments and found one that we absolutely love. It's a two bedroom, two-story townhouse for a very good monthly price. We found out yesterday that we were accepted so now we just wait until we get an official address. We are both very excited about it but will be sad to leave behind family and friends in Utah.
