It was a very interesting day for us Cannons. We had to wake up early (we've been used to staying up very late and sleeping in until 11 or so). Kris had a meeting with the produce guy over at Macey's (the grocery store) at 9 in the morning. I got up because Kayla was picking me up at 9 to go take some bridals (she wanted to get some so she could have some bridals in her photography portfolio... they weren't just to get bridal pictures done a month after we were married). So, Kayla stayed and curled my hair while Kris went to his interview. The guy basically just asked for his schedule and had him working starting Thursday of this week. We are really excited that he has a job.
Kayla and I left just a little bit after Kris got back to drive up to Utah Lake for pictures. I decided to just wear my wedding dress in the car since that would be easier than stopping somewhere to change. This is when Kayla and I's experience turned a little bit into a funny movie. We were on the freeway when all of a sudden, traffic came to a complete standstill. Just our luck. Then Kayla's car began to shake. And the Mexican in the car in front of us kept looking back at us. It was really creepy. Kayla then noticed a light on in the dashboard area that looked like an engine to us. Not good news. I looked it up in the little handbook (you know, the one they keep in the glovebox) and it was something about the Emission System. Kayla shut the car off (since we were COMPLETELY still) to see if it would stop the shaking. Just about this time, a police officer came over and tapped on our window and motioned us to move over closer to the semi in the next lane. The problem was: the car then would not even start. Uh-oh. The nice policeman just pushed our car over enough to let some cop cars drive by on the left. When traffic started going again, another officer used his car to push us over to the far right lane (where there were 5 other cars that had been in an accident). Keep in mind that through this whole ordeal, I have my wedding dress on. Both officers looked into the car and had to have seen it. Once we were stopped, a nice mechanic man offered to try to jump our car. He also checked to make sure that I was not running late to a wedding. The jump worked, we got the car to the shop, we got to wait for Kris to come get us in a Sav-More Auto Shop (while wearing a wedding dress), and then went on our way. Good news is that the car is fixed now and all is well! I also got to change clothes before I ran my other errands (changing my name at Social Security and at BYU and going to the bank).
Here is a picture from Sav-More taken by Kayla:
Kris also had an exciting day because not only did he get a job but he started work today. They had him do orientation at 2 and then do a shift until 8 tonight. He had a good first day. He said he picked up on things pretty fast because he was remembering stuff from when he worked there before his mission. I'm really happy that he is working now. He does a good job; I'm glad he's working hard to help support our family.
