Baby Update

It has been a tough week for me, especially work-wise, but we did have one major highlight from this week: we got to have a growth ultrasound, which they'll be doing every 4 weeks (for now). I don't think I've mentioned it on the blog, so for those who don't know, I have gestational diabetes. They gave me a diet to follow which restricts carb intake. I have been doing it for 12 weeks now and have 15 weeks left in the pregnancy. It's not so bad most days but sometimes I just really want a brownie! It makes it all worth it to find out Baby Girl is doing well, though. Here's a (somewhat blurry because it's from my cell phone) picture from the ultrasound

It's a profile shot and her head is on the right side. The cavity you can see in the middle is her heart. She has her hand up by her mouth/nose (maybe sucking her thumb?) This was just a quick peak to measure her since gestational diabetes can cause babies to grow to big. Often times, they will induce you a week early because of this. At the time of the ultrasound, I was 24 weeks 3 days and the baby measured 23 weeks 2 days, so she was just about a week small. They estimated her weight to be 1 pound, 7 ounces. This is within normal range and makes sense (for her to be a little small) because both Kris and I were small babies (especially Kris, he was less than 6 pounds!). I'm glad that my blood sugars haven't been making her grow huge.

She was very wiggly during the whole ultrasound- which is normal for her. I don't have anything to compare it to, but I feel like she is one wiggly baby! Kris feels her every morning before we get out of bed. We can even see my belly move now when she kicks, which is really weird but also very cool. Kris also can hear her heartbeat if he puts his ear down on my belly. He's only been able to do it once so far, but it was really cool.

Today, I am 25 weeks pregnant. Baby is about the size of a cauliflower. She is pretty much fully formed, feature-wise. Her face looks like it will when she's born (although she still has to put on a bunch of fat). Her nostrils have opened up so she can practice breathing and continue working on developing those lungs. My symptoms haven't been awful during second trimester; the biggest one for me is my back hurts almost all the time. Whenever that is really bad, or I really crave something sweet I just think of our baby and that she's worth it. We both already love her so much and can't wait to meet her in 15 short weeks
