So I decided to start posting again on our blog since we've had some EXCITING news! We are having a baby girl and she is due on May 26 and we couldn't be happier. Not many people know this, but we had actually been trying to get pregnant for a while. Doctors won't do any sort of testing until it's been a year, so when we were finally able to see a doctor, they started going over the whole process of what tests would be required and there were a LOT that were very expensive. We were planning on doing them because we knew this was something we wanted to do. After about 14 months of trying, I was in for an ultrasound. The doctor showed me the results, and what she thought was possibly a cyst in one of my ovaries. She wanted to do some more tests and was going to give me some medicine to take but wanted to do a blood test first to rule out pregnancy (standard procedure). At this point, I couldn't even tell you how many pregnancy tests I've taken. It seems like countless times at home that we'd wait the 2 or 3 minutes to check and it would always be negative. We came to expect it but my heart still broke a little each and every time.
I went to work and waited for the call from the doctor's office to confirm what I already knew (that I wasn't pregnant) so that I could get started on the medicine as soon as possible so we could move forward with the tests. It was a Friday so if I didn't hear back by the end of the day, I'd have to wait until Monday before I could start taking the pills. I tried to call the doctor before they closed and they still didn't have the results. They close at 4:00 on Fridays so by the time Kris came to pick me up and we got home from work, I was pretty disappointed. I felt no closer to finding out why this was happening and was pretty bummed I couldn't start the medicine until Monday at the soonest. We were lying in bed when my phone starting ringing. Kris got up to pee while I answered. It was my doctor (not just someone at the lab). Here's our conversation:
Doctor: So did you get the results yet?
Me: No; I tried calling before they closed at 4 but they said they didn't have it yet
Doctor: Well, Congratulations!
Me: Wait, what? *at this point I start tearing up a little bit*
Doctor: Your blood test came back that you are about 3-4 weeks pregnant.
Me: Are you serious? (between laughing/crying)
Kris enters room (didn't even wash his hands) and is like, "Are you pregnant?!?!" I nod to him as I'm now pretty much sobbing while the doctor continues to talk. Kris returns to wash his hands and then comes back in the room as I'm finishing up the conversation. I don't really remember what exactly she said but I did get that I was supposed to go back on Monday so they could do another test to make sure my hormone levels were rising at an appropriate rate. The cool part about this story is that little spot on the ultra sound that they thought was a cyst- that was our baby.
