Valentine's Day

I love Valentine's Day. I think it's a wonderful day of the year (and not just because I'm married... I've always liked Valentine's Day... even when I was single. I think everyone should). I learned the origins of Valentine's Day in one of my Latin classes at BYU. It comes from an ancient Roman holiday called Lupercalia. Priests would run through the city with some wolf hide and whip women with it, causing the women to become more fertile. I am much more fond of the modern celebration of this day, however.

Here is how my Valentine's Day went:

1. Wake up. Kris said he had to get up a little early because he had forgotten to do his math homework, so he's been up for an hour by the time my alarm goes up. I get up, really groggy, and he comes down to ask if I could help with a problem he's stuck on. So I agree, and when I walk upstairs, there's a bouquet of roses on the table, a heart shaped box of Dove chocolates (truffle kind- yum :)), and waffles. We enjoyed breakfast together and then got ready for school.
2.School. I only had 3 classes today. My English class was canceled so I was able to go to the library in between my classes and get some good work done. I just learned the code for the Ancient Studies room in the library, so I went in there and it was fabulous (it smelled like old books, one of my favorite smells). To top it all off, Kris had left a nice little note for me in my planner that I found in my first class. It made me smile.
3. Go home. Kris picked me up at 3 like always and we stopped at a Redbox on the way home (we had a free movie rental code that was only valid on V-day) and got a quick lunch at McDonald's. When we get home a bit later, as I walk in, I am hit with the smell of fresh flowers. Then I get a good look at the kitchen table. This is what I saw

\(Ignore the date... Kris's camera is incorrect. This is, actually, on Valentine's Day) Can you believe it??? My husband is just perfect. His math class had gotten canceled last week and he never told me about it. So while I was at school, he went home and got all of this ready for me. If you can see in between the vases of roses in the back, there is a little gold box with a white ribbon. This is what was inside:

!!!!! I love it!! It was absolutely perfect. I couldn't believe he got something that nice for me. This is us happy and in love:

4. Dinner. We made some fabulous homemade pasta. It's a recipe that I learned from a friend at BYU, Annie Fuller. I made it with my family on Christmas Eve in 2009. We had a blast making dinner together. We got in a flour fight and everything. After washing up, we cooked the noodles and set the table for dinner.

(Oh, I forgot to mention that we had gone to the dollar store and bought some vases for all of the flowers. We did some pretty cool arrangements in the individual vases, although you can't tell too much when they're all together). It was delicious. After that, we sliced into some of our saved wedding cake. (We saved the top since it's tradition to eat it on your 1-year anniversary, but then we heard that cakes don't actually taste that good if you keep them in the freezer for a year, so we had some for Valentine's Day. It kept pretty well.) We ate it with some strawberries and it was very yummy. Then we watched our DVD from Redbox: You Again. It was a cute movie. We both liked it.

I hope all of you had a great Valentine's Day and told someone you loved them :) I know I did.
